Cycle from Lake Geneva through the Rhône Valley to Provence, following one of Europe’s most iconic rivers

Overview

This is a self-guided ride along the Via Rhôna, beginning in Geneva and finishing in Orange.

It’s a long route.

You don’t just dip into it.
You follow it.

From the edge of Lake Geneva, the Rhône begins to pull you forward. At first, the landscape still holds onto the Alps. Then, gradually, it lets go. The terrain softens. The air changes. The pace settles.

You cross into France and move through a sequence of places that feel distinct but connected. Small towns. River paths. Vineyards. Cities like Lyon, where the ride pauses and something else takes over for a while.

The shifts are subtle at first.

Then unmistakable.

You ride through Savoie and Bugey, with the foothills of the Jura never far off. Further south, the Rhône opens up, moving past vineyards and into the long, sunlit stretches that begin to hint at Provence.

Each day carries you forward.

Some are longer, more demanding. Others invite you to ease off, stop more often, and take in where you are. The balance builds naturally as the route unfolds.

This is a self-guided experience.

Your route is mapped.
Your accommodations are arranged.
Your luggage moves ahead.

You ride at your own pace. You stop in villages, take longer lunches than planned, and let the landscape shape the day as much as the route does.

It’s not just about completing the Via Rhôna.

It’s about following a river far enough to feel how everything changes along the way.
